The Peace Corps was established by Executive Order 10924, issued by President John F. Kennedy on March 1, 1961, announced by televised broadcast March 2, 1961, and authorized by Congress on September 22, 1961, with passage of the Peace Corps Act (Public Law 87-293). Teacher; Peace Corps volunteer. Jane Sommer (dates unknown) graduated from Radcliffe College, 1964. She served with the Peace Corps in the Philippines, 1964-66, training elementary school teachers.
